Hawaiian Roll French Toast

One of my all time favorite breakfasts has to be these Hawaiian roll French toast. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, topped with powdered sugar and drizzled with syrup. This is not your grandmas classic French toast. These are much better and I have a really cool hack to make this recipe super easy. This is the best French toast ever! 

Why use Hawaiian Rolls to make French toast?

I know this isn't the traditional way. Every time I've shared this recipe, people ask why I don't just used slice bread. The answer is always the same. These are better. Better because you have crispy edges and a soft fluffy inside. Plus who doesn't love sweet King's Hawaiian Rolls?

What to serve with French toast.

I normally serve fresh berries with this French toast. Strawberries and blueberries are the perfect compliment and help balance the heaviness of this dish. A side of eggs or bacon are always a good idea. Or if you're feeling adventurous try my Smoked breakfast pig shots.

What you need to make Hawaiian Roll French Toast

Kings Hawaiian original Hawaiian sweet rolls: Often imitated, never duplicated these are the best rolls for the recipe. Sweet, fluffy, and delicious.

Eggs: Eggs will help bind the rest of the ingredients together

Flavored coffee creamer: I like to use French Vanilla but switch it up and use any that you like.

Cinnamon and Nutmeg: Gives a savory element to this sweet breakfast.

Why use coffee creamer?

Many people ask me why I use creamer. The answer is simple. It's much easier this way and I'm using simple ingredients. When using flavored creamer, I can skip the whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, and vanilla extract because I have all of those elements in the bottle of creamer. Additionally, If I want to try a different flavor like Pumpkin Spice, all I have to do is use a different creamer. It's the life hack you never knew you needed!

Easy Hawaiian Roll French toast

In a large bowl whisk together coffee creamer, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg. Then separate the rolls and dunk them into the egg mixture and let them sit for about 2-3 minutes.

Heat up a large skillet to medium heat with a little unsalted butter. If you own a griddle, these would cook great on there. Then cook the Hawaiian Rolls making sure to get a nice sear on each side. They should be nice and golden brown on the outside and fluffy texture on the inside.

Serve the French Toast with fresh fruit like strawberries and blueberries.

While the French toast is still hot, I like to stack them high and pour warm syrup over all of the rolls.

Then I sprinkle powdered sugar to finish and serve them up immediately.
