Instructions

Step 1: Cook the onions
On a griddle or large pan, sauté diced onions and season with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Continue cooking the onions until softened.

Step 2: Cook the beef
Add your ground beef right on top of the onions, season with bbq rub and continue cooking until the meat has browned and cooked all the way through. Mix the beef and onions together to incorporate.

Step 3: Make it sloppy
Add ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce to make the sloppy Joe, mixing well to combine.

Step 4: Toast the bread
Using frozen Texas Toast, toast on your griddle for a couple of minutes on each side.

Step 5: Assembly
Top each slice of Texas Toast with cheese, add sloppy joe to half, then cap with the remaining slices to form sandwiches

Step 6: Serving
Cook the grilled cheese on the griddle for about a minute per side until the cheese melts, helped along by the warm sloppy joe. Serve hot and slice in half for easier eating.
Hints: Let the sloppy joe filling thicken so your sandwich isn't soggy and don't skimp on the cheese. Add two slices per grilled cheese, you'll thank me later.

Sloppy Joe Grilled cheese on Texas Toast
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Yield: 4 1x
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon BBQ seasoning (Or my All Night Rub)
- 1 teaspoon each salt, pepper and garlic blend (Or my All Day Rub)
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 package frozen garlic Texas Toast (8 slices)
- 8 slices American cheese (or Cheddar)
Instructions
- Cook the onions: Heat olive oil on a griddle or skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and cook until softened.
- Cook the beef: Add ground beef directly onto the onions. Sprinkle with BBQ seasoning and cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Mix onions and beef together.
- Make it sloppy: Stir in ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Let simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Toast the bread: Place frozen Texas Toast on the griddle. Toast 2-3 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
- Build the sandwiches: Add a slice of cheese to each piece of toast. Spoon sloppy joe filling onto half the slices, then top with another slice of cheese and the remaining toast.
- Grill the sandwiches: Continue cooking on low heat for 1-2 minutes per side until cheese is melted and gooey.
- Serve hot: Slice in half for easier handling and enjoy while warm.
Notes
Let the sloppy joe filling thicken before assembling to avoid soggy bread, and don't skimp on the cheese-two slices per sandwich takes it over the top.
