Ingredients you need for this sandwich
The great thing about this sandwich or really any, is that fact you can customize it to your own liking. So if you want to add or take away anything, thats totally fine!
The cold cuts: Pepperoni, salami and ham.
The cheese: Provolone cheese
The veggies: Sliced red onion, pepperoncini peppers, iceberg lettuce, and tomatoes.
The flavor: Mayonnaise, olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, and dried Italian seasoning. My All Day seasoning is also an amazing substitute for just salt and pepper.
The bread: I used hoagie rolls I bought from the bakery. Use your favorite Italian bread or whatever you prefer.

Making the chopped Italian sandwich
First shred some lettuce and add that to the bottom of your cutting board as the base.

Next add pepperoni, salami, ham, provolone cheese, red onions, pepperoncini peppers and sliced tomatoes. Just pile everything on top of each other.

Next take a sharp knife and chop everything up really well and make sure it's all mixed together. This is the fun part. Just feel that stress melt away as you chop!

At this point, add mayonnaise, olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, black pepper and Italian seasoning. Then continue to chop again and mix together so everything is incorporated.

Now all there's left to do is scoop up a heaping pile of this chopped goodness and pile it into toasted hoagie rolls. You get a little bit of everything with each bite and it is so good!
Make these in a few minutes and serve right away, or even ahead of time if you need.
When I first posted this recipe on Tik tok a lot of people mentioned it reminded them of hoagie dip. You could absolutely place these ingredients in a large bowl and spread onto toasted baguettes like a dip.
Try these variations:
Feel free to use different ingredients to customize this recipe. That's the beauty of this sandwich. You can make it however you'd like.
Breads: Try it on sour dough, French bread, or Italian sub rolls.
Meats: If you don't like any of the cold cuts try roast beef, turkey, or pastrami to mix it up a bit.
Cheeses: Swiss, havarti, and mozzarella are great options here.

Walter Dixon says
How long will it keep in the fridge?
Jordan Hanger says
Probably just a day or two.
Deborah says
So funny.... Everytime I had extra chop salads, I'd make sandwiches out of it. Now it's a thing.
Jordan Hanger says
You must have been the original! haha
Rob says
So this can be made ahead time, say for a picnic and then assembled onsite?
Jordan Hanger says
Yeah for sure. I would just be a little cautious on the lettuce. Maybe keep that separate and then add/ mix in just before serving.
Steve says
Going to Try! How many cups do the veggies, and meat, cheese etc. make?
Jordan Hanger says
Not sure how many cups exactly but I would say 4-6 cups if I have to guess. Enough for 4 people/ sandwiches.
Steve says
Thank you. Going to reduce the slices of meat and maybe cheese. I want to mix the right ratio for the dressing.
Rebecca says
Super yummy. Only thing I left out where the hoagie rolls!
Great addition to my meal plan!
Jordan Hanger says
Thanks Rebecca!

My husband had a great idea to make the chopped Italian sub for a lake day! We chopped everything minus the Mayo, oil, and vinegar (those were added to a separate container) and placed in Tupperware overnight. Mixed everything together once we were ready to eat and scooped onto hoagie rolls! Easiest sandwiches on the boat, hands down! So good!
Jordan Hanger says
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Neal says

The only changes I made were to sub the banana peppers with sliced pepperoncini peppers and to use a few tablespoons of an Italian vinaigrette I had on hand in place of the oil and vinegar. We loved this sandwich! We had it for dinner, then lunch, and then again for dinner. So fresh tasting and delicious. Thank you!
Jordan Hanger says
Great substitutions! I could eat them for every meal too.

Family of 7 here, including a picky 4 year old who only likes cauliflower (lol). Every single person loved it! We've had it 3 times in the last 2 weeks on toasted whole wheat French bread loaf. I made it exactly as the recipe calls and it was excellent, then we modified it for experimental purposes and still loved it. We keep it in a big bowl in the fridge and surprisingly it's just as delicious the next day for lunch despite the fact that lettuce gets "soggy". Nope! Or maybe we just don't care! Haha. We've subbed bananas peppers with bread and butter pickles and still a thumbs up! I love that I can sneak in veggies like finely chopped carrot and celery and green olive and they hardly notice. Thanks for the recipe!
Jordan Hanger says
Thanks Katie for the super nice review! I'm so glad your whole family loves it! It's always a win when you can sneak in some veggies too without sacrificing on flavor.
April says
So good, finally, finally made this for dinner.
I got to use my new food dicer/ chopper & experiment with the size and found out what is capable of. Not usefully with cheese slices on the smallest squares, perhaps if they were par-froze! 😉
Thank you for the outline! Twas a hit!
Jordan Hanger says
Anytime! The food processor is a great idea.
Jessica says
Made this tonight for dinner, and it was amazing!!! The flavors mixed well together and it was overall well balanced. Will make again.

Super easy to make. My whole family loved it! I’ve made this several times now!
Jordan Hanger says
Glad to hear it!
Cindi says
I made this today and it is wonderful! I did not add the lettuce. I am the only one eating it so I thought the lettuce might wilt. I add the lettuce when I make the sandwich. I also used deli turkey instead of ham and turkey pepperoni instead of regular pepperoni. Thank you so much. I will be recommending this recipe to my children.
Jordan Hanger says
sounds delicious!
Rachel H says

A friend made this on a boat trip and it was a hit! I'm making it tomorrow but trying some substitutions: havarti dill cheese, tzatziki instead of Mayo, and sourdough bread. I'll report back!
Jordan Hanger says
Great idea! Let me know how it goes!
Michelle says
I saw this and thought… hmmmm? What’s so special about this? It was FANTASTIC! Easy, inexpensive and I released quite a bit of aggression chopping it all! My parents are picky and it was a huge hit! I added black olives to the mix and mustard to the bread. Thank yo so much! It will be in the regular rotation during the summer. It’s HOT in Georgia ☀️
Jordan Hanger says
Its one of my favorite recipes! You get a little bit of everything and yes you can take out all your anger on it lol
Canedy says
Made this for dinner tonight and it is so good!!!! Left out the onions but added dill pickles and it’s delicious! My son even ate it all after I told him it isn’t coleslaw lol! Thank you for an excellent dinner idea!
Jordan Hanger says
haha love it when the kids enjoy too
Dream Proxies says
Perfect just what I was looking for! .
Kristy says
Love this recipe! I cut up everything separately and put it in a big bowl and then mix it all up with the dressing. I guess that takes out the fun of getting your frustrations out by chopping it all together but I don't have a big enough area to do that. Definitely in our meal rotation. It's delicious and so easy to make. Thanks for the recipe!
Jordan Hanger says
Anytime! Glad it came together for you,.
Lindsey says
These subs are well-balanced and delicious. Each bite is the perfect bite! I also like saving some of the filling to throw on a salad or in a wrap.
Grandma B says
We make a big bowl of all but the lettuce at work. Eat it as a dip - scoop chips are great, but celery makes a great change up! Keep a bowl of lettuce on the side for those that want it on a roll.
Jordan Hanger says
Sounds great!
Jerry Brennan says
Damn fine sandwich!!
Jordan Hanger says
thanks Jerry!
Angela says
I add pickles, black olives, banana peppers, pepperoncinis, red onion, a little of everything I like and it’s amazing! Sometimes I’ll use mortadella instead of ham. I come back to this recipe everytime. I’ve made it like 20 times. My favorite! Thank you!!!
Jordan Hanger says
Love those additions! Thanks for the kind words!
Danny G. says
Looks easy and tasty. I'll chop up some jalapeños for heat.
Terisal says
What flavor of ham did you use?
Jordan Hanger says
Honey ham
Yaz says
This delicious chopped sub has become a staple in our household. I make it everytime time we go to the beach and get togethers. Always a hit :). Great for school lunches too! Of course, the kids have to add the mixing to the bread when they are ready to eat it.
Jordan Hanger says
Perfect for the beach!
