What kind of steak and potatoes should I use for this recipe?
For this recipe, I like using New York strip steaks as they are easy to cube and taste delicious. You can also use ribeye steak if you have some on hand.
I also like using baby Yukon gold potatoes and cutting them in half or quarters. The yellow potatoes are my favorite but you could even use sweet potatoes for a healthier option.
How to make garlic butter steak and potatoes
Prepping the steak and potatoes:
Cube your steak and potatoes into 1 inch pieces or smaller. This is really just a matter of preference. The smaller you cut the steak and potatoes, the faster they will cook.
However, if you cut them too small you can easily overcook the steak or undercook the potatoes. Try to cut them into similar sizes if you can.

Cooking the potatoes:
Heat up your cast iron pan to medium-high heat and add some olive oil to the bottom. Then, add your diced potatoes and season them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder and some herbs de providence.

Continue to cook the potatoes until they get a good sear, are crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. This should take about 5-8 minutes depending on the size of your potato cubes and should be close to fork tender.

Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the pan and set aside.
Cooking the steak:
Now into the same pan, reduce the heat just a bit to medium and add a knob of butter and some garlic paste. Stir that together and allow the garlic to cook for about 1-2 minutes.
Season your steak with salt and pepper, then add it into the pan in a single layer, with the butter and garlic.

Allow the steak to cook and get a nice sear, and then flip them a few times so they cook evenly on all sides. The steak should take 3-5 minutes to cook to about medium doneness depending on the size.

Combining everything together.
Turn the heat down to low, and combine the potatoes back into the cast iron pan. Mix the steak and potatoes together so they are evenly distributed for about another minute. Feel free to add another tablespoon or two of butter if you need to or want to!

Finishing up:
To finish, I like to add some freshly grated parmesan cheese over the top and some chopped parsley. This makes for a beautiful and rustic presentation that will have your family excited about dinner time.

This easy meal is ready in about 8-10 minutes and is a recipe the entire family will love. Juicy steak bites with crispy potatoes are hard to beat! Serve them up with your favorite side like asparagus, green beans, brussels sprouts or with a fresh salad.
How to store steak and potatoes.
Place everything into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. To reheat, use your microwave in 30 second increments, or drop them back into a cast iron pan and quickly warm them up over medium heat.
