If you're not making Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese on Texas Toast, you're doing it wrong! Cheesy, beefy, and straight up satisfying.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 2

Ingredients

  • 4 slices frozen Texas Toast
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ seasoning or rub

Instructions

  1. Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until the onions are softened and slightly caramelized.
  2. Add the ground beef directly on top of the onions. Season with BBQ rub and break the beef apart as it cooks. Continue cooking until the beef is browned and cooked through. Mix the beef and onions together until well incorporated.
  3. Add the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture. Stir well to combine and let it cook for a couple of minutes until the sauce is hot and coats the beef.
  4. Place the frozen Texas Toast directly on the griddle. Toast for about 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. Place a slice of American cheese on each piece of Texas Toast. Spoon the sloppy Joe mixture onto half of the slices, then top with the remaining slices of Texas Toast to form sandwiches.
  6. Place the assembled sandwiches back on the griddle. Cook for about 1 minute per side, gently pressing down as they cook, until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted. The heat from the sloppy Joe mixture will help melt the cheese.
  7. Serve the Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese hot. Slice each sandwich in half for easier eating and that perfect cheesy, sloppy Joe pull.
