  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pack of hotdogs
  • 1 pack of hotdog buns
  • 4 tablespoons of softened butter
  • 1/2 cup shredded yellow cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
  • Ketchup or mustard (Optional dipping sauces)

Instructions

  1. Start by butterflying your hotdogs—slice them vertically down the middle, but don’t cut all the way through. Use a rolling pin to flatten out the hotdog buns, then spread butter on each one.
  2. Shred both yellow and white cheddar cheese. You can use bagged cheese if needed, but freshly shredded cheese from the block melts much better.
  3. Heat a griddle or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Toast both sides of the buns and cook the hotdogs. This should only take a few minutes.
  4. Lower the heat to medium. Add a layer of shredded cheese to one side of each bun, place the hotdog on top, then sprinkle more cheese over it. Close the bun and gently press it down with a spatula.
  5. Let the cheese melt for a few minutes, flipping the sandwich once or twice until both sides are golden and the cheese is fully melted.
  6. Remove from heat, let them cool for a couple of minutes, and serve with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dip.
